As many of you know, I have the record for T's in my assoc. this season, and I've been trying to call less (due to "suggestions" of the higher-ups).
I had 3 situations where I "passed" on the T tonight. I'm confident on the first 2, but really don't feel right on the 3rd. A1 is shooting his last FT. Ball hits rim, starts bouncing up and down, and A2 touches the basket while the ball is in the basket. I called the BI, wiped off the shot (to much complaining), but didn't call the T on A2 (yes; I did realize at the time that it should have been a T), mainly because I didn't want to get into the hassle of the situation. The only problem - A was that team that won by only 3. Had I given the T, B would have had an automatic 2 points, and the game might have swung the other way. How much "give" do you guys give on the hitting the basket on this type of play? (Sorry for the venting once again!)

NCAA is an indirect T for touching the ball in flight during a FT (10-3-19).
Okay, NCAA guys, when does the "in flight" end? When the ball touches the rim? When the ball goes through?

In a high school game this is a Technical Foul. I would call a Tech. That is the rule here. We have some many rules people on this forum that stick by the rules until "death does us part." Tech.
NCAA when an offensive team interferes with its free throw it shall be wiped off. No Techical Foul. If the defense interferes with it on or above the cylinder it shall count. If the defense goal tends a free throw, score it and call a technical foul and then go to point of interruption from the scored free throw out of bounds. |

Mick & Mark D.
I should be so knowledgeable about the rules as you guys. When I saw your rule reference, I re-read the rule and I have to admit (much to my chagrin!!), that I was not aware that under NF rules, it is a "T" for goaltending and BI. I will make a "delayed" New Year's resolution to study my rule book more. |

dblref,
That's why I'm on these forums, to learn from guys like mick and Mark D. This is my 1st year, but I got what I felt to be quite a complement from an AD Tuesday night. He simply said he'd heard of me and heard that I was doing a good job. If I am indeed doing a good job (debatable after I kicked a couple last night), it's because I've taken to heart the advice and example of guys on this forum. (Gals, too. You go, Rainmaker!) |
