A short time back there was a thread concerning pulling the plug as an official... But as I recall it came from the standpoint of knowing one's own limitations.
We have an individual in our association, in his early 70's, that IMHO should call it a career...
He's been calling HS ball for over 25 years. He'll only do Varsity games and simply put, he just doesn't have what it takes anymore.
Some might suggest that the assignor cut back on the number of games he gets... But as luck would have it... He is the scheduler.
Have any of you had a similar sitch? Was it dealt with or just ignored like we're doing?

Is your assignor "elected" to the position? They are in my association, although our assignor does not do any games at any level. Are the coaches and/or AD's complaining? BTW, I hope that I still have the desire/ability to officiate at 70 because I will be there in 11 more years!

Doesn't your association have a ratings system that determines who gets varsity games? Our assignor is a ref, but he is only allowed to do games according to where he is rated. If that is not the case, your board of directors should still have the power to ensure that all referees are given games appropriate for their skill level right?

Our assignor is "elected" in our association but it is for life. Needless to say, this gives him some incredible power.

Just call him "Your Honor" - he's equivalent to a SCOTUS justice.
