Team A is handed the ball for a spot throw-in. The inbounder slaps the ball to start the offense, and in doing so drops the ball. Is this a violation or can he pick the ball up and continue the throw-in?

Not a violation unless it touches in play and then the thrower gathers the ball, or causes the thrower to move more than his/her alloted 3 feet on or over the spot of the throw in.

KidKJ is absolutely correct. This is no different than A1 bouncing the ball OOB prior to the inbounds pass toward the court. Just remember to continue your 5 second count.

Sometimes it may be good to blow the whistle and let everyone reset. This can also happen when a player attempts a free throw and dribbles it off his/her foot. Let's just call a do over and let everyone have a clean play.
