As a newly frocked Varsity official, I would like some suggestions on when you would go strong side as a Lead. Is it simply when you see players in the post (high or low) and the ball is clearly strong side? This is one aspect of my game I think needs improvement. One of my perpetual fears is going strong side and having the ball kicked back over to the weak side quickly and being out of position on either a foul or OOB call.

If you stay weakside, what are you watching?
If it's the post players on the ball side, then move over to get a better view. 99% of the time you (or your partner) will see the OOB on your sideline, and the post play is more important, and more frequent. |

I have learned that trying to "stay outside of the ball" on the weak side creates a lot of unseen contact in the lane. I would rather risk missing a periphery call than allow the contact around the basket. This has also resulted in an increased confidence in "my game."

I agree with Bob & Wille.
When the low post players move over and then the ball moves over same side close down to position #1 on the weak side- - take a look at where the ball is and be sure its not about to be shot--THEN move across to strong side( #1 or#2 postion) with your shoulders squared to the play and focus into the key area concentrating on the low post strong side play- NEVER move across when the ball is in the air on a shot. When your partner sees you come across he./ she should move slightly towards centre court and help out on the weak side coverage. Anticipate the pass into the low post when all this happens and most of the time you will be in the best position for both close in attempts and rebounding action . This is the best you can do in a 2 man system. Pistol

Like Pistol says, when you go strong side the T slides
around the arc toward center court to pick up where you were. He should also be prepared to help with OOB calls on your sideline. I'll add that you should pregame this.
