Recently got them too, and they're a nice alternate pair -- breathe well and roomy compared to patent leather Zigs. You can save significant buck$ if you can manage to find last year's model (i.e. this year's is much, much pricier, if I remember correctly).

You can usually get the current model for $100 from Asics directly with free shipping. The current model is usually $90 on amazon.

If you want a model that is a year or two old, they are super cheap on Amazon.

I buy the GT-1000 every year. They release a new model every year and they are great shoes. Hold up very well and are very comfortable.

How does the Sharpie marker hold up on the non-black parts of shoes? Would you guys recommend a shoe polish as well? I'm not into the "shiny" shoes and would like to buy a basketball shoe to ref in...but as you all know, it's REALLY hard to find an ALL black shoe. I have the added problem of having size 14 feet!

Two seasons ago, I went with a Nike shoe. Within a couple of weeks worth of games my achilles were hurting up a storm. I barely made it to the end of the season. That has taught me two things - 1) Make sure that I stretch on a regular basis, and 2) Always wear NB's. The past two season have been a breeze on my achilles despite working in a ever increasing number of game on a year round basis. So I completely agree with JoeTheRef. I have two pair of the 610's. As a matter of fact, I exchanged my pair of Nikes for my second pair of NB's and received a store discount for it.
