Lately I've had a bunch of questions, but I really appreciate the help.

If a player who is inbounding the ball has taken possession of the ball from the official and then places the ball on the floor (OOB), runs onto the court and tells another player to switch places, is there a violation? (I know that if the whole process takes longer than 5 seconds you have an automatic violation, but I was wondering more about the switching places.)

Thanks in advance!

No Violation

This is NOT a violation.

However, the official will continue a visual count; once 5 seconds have elapsed it is a violation.

If this is after a made/awarded basket, no violation.

For a spot throw-in, however, this is a turnover. See 10-2-9.

Mark, you are referring to 9-2-9 which reads:

A player shall not violate the following provisions governing the throw-in. The thrower shall not:
ART.9...Replace the thrower after the ball is at the thrower's disposal.

Thanks!

Thanks, Paul.

At least I got you pointed in the right direction. :)
