Do I get a pin? Is there some kind of initiation? Coach does not like a foul I called on one of his players (varsity girls game) and goes infantile with screaming and yelling. Whack! technical foul #1. I report it to the table and before my partner can get to him to cool him down he gets personal as I am walking away. Whack! technical foul #2. Coach is instructed to leave the confines. According to the rules (case book 10.5 Situation A) he must leave the building or go to the locker room. He opts for the latter. Ejection is during first period. At halftime his team goes to the locker room where guess who is waiting for them.

Game ends and his team winds up winning by 17 but the other team protests on the basis that participation by the coach following his/her ejection is not allowed. I am advised by Athletic Director to possibly expect a call to tell what I observed at halftime. Anyone been involved in something like this?

You're off the hook, you did everything by the book (although I'd wish that my partner would have got there quicker so that he/she could have given the second T).<P>
You can't control what goes on in the locker room. Besides, there is no rule I know of that addresses what an ejected coach is/isn't allowed to do in the locker room. Do you know of one?

(1) The losing team needs to quit whining, as they should know there are (generally) no protests - this isn't baseball.

(2) As long as the coach is not using electronic replay equipment while down there, it is perfectly legal for him/her to talk to the team at halftime.

Not only do you get the coach ejection pin but the coach ejection ring as well as the pocket knife.... And if you call within the next 5 minutes, we'll throw in an eight quart gravy ladle.

Well I can only say one thing... you never forget your first one. And might I add you did an excellent job.

One thing that is definetly a possibility is that the coach intended to get tossed in order to motivate his team, so instead of the losing coach whinning he or she should be putting that play in the coaches handbook.

Last season I ejected my first, and only, coach. Boys JV game, home team coach rather verbal all game. Early in 4th quarter, home team down by 5, coach goes wild again. I gave him the stop sign and told him to relax. A minute later he objected to another call and took a few steps on the court. I pulled the trigger and called the T. As i started towards the table to report the foul, coach says, in quite a loud voice "you suck." Bang, second T from me. I now proceed to the table to get coaches name (in my county we have to fax a report about any ejection the next morning. The coach followed me towards the table saying "go ahead and call another one." My partner then issued number 3.

Coach finally heads towards the locker room, but not quite inside. It turns out they have no assistant coach: game over at that point. As my partner and I walk towards our dressing room, adjoining home team lockers, the coach was in the doorway and verbally abused us.

This had the potential to really get out of hand and require police intervention. It didn't get to that point, but security escorted us to our cars.

By the way, in my county, anyone who is ejected from a game is suspended the next game. A second ejection in the season and they aresuspended for the rest of the season. 2 days later I received a phone call from the school's Athletic Director apologizing to me.

I hope you didn't accept his apology. Why should you? He wasn't the one that verbally abused you and your partner. I would have told the guy that, while you appreciate the gesture, you will only accept an apology from the coach.
