Basketball Camp Recommendation

Just got back from my 3rd LookSee Officials Instructional Camp at Lycoming College. Women's College Basketball camp emphasis. Very affordable ($175) which includes 3 meals a day, housing, and great on-court evaluation (2-3 evaluators at each court) and also classroom sessions. 3 conference assignors came (Division I, II, and III). Dr. Meieir from the Ivy/NEC spoke one evening and it was great to hear him speak (he's also a magician). I'd highly recommend the camp to anyone interested in learning college women's. It is by far the best camp I've been to and for officials in the NJ, NY, PA, MD, DE area that want a great camp, I'd say to go next year. The only thing they don't do that could be helpful is to videotape. But we get written evaluations given to us and evaluators talked to us well after the games. The level of ball was pretty bad though...JV and Varsity team camp... I've also hit up some pretty bad camps (where they just take your money)...so I'm learning which camps to invest in and which ones not to.

This website was very helpful in finding camps:

Where was this camp? How was the level of play? How many officials were there? Why are you not happy with yourself? Share!! :)

BZ1, I was at Mickey's camp a couple years ago and I worked with a new official. It wasn't his first season -- it was his first game, ever! He probably didn't have a "great camp" by most people's standards, but he learned a lot and got better as a result.

I'm sure you feel that you could've done better, but I'm equally sure that you learned some very important things: court coverage, from Edgar; dealing with coaches, from Reggie; what an assignor really looks for, from Brad; etc. Focus on those things and if you weren't keeping notes at camp, write some of them down so you can incorporate them into your game next season. Jack and Reggie give very practical advice, so I hope you got the chance to be observed by them.

And also on the positive side, I bet you didn't have any of your games rained out! :D
