Here's a challenging one. NF rules, both teams in bonus. A1 inbounds in A's frontcourt on endline. B1 intercepts inbound pass, gets confused and goes up for jumper toward A's basket. While B1 is in the air, A2 fouls B1. The ball then goes in the basket. B1 lands and punches A2.

What's the call, and what's the sequence?

Challenging?

Common foul on A2.
No basket.
Flagrant T on B1.
B1 is ejected.
B1's substitute shoots the bonus.
Team A shoots 2 FTs for the T.
Team gets the ball for a throw-in at the division line.

1) no basket 2) B1 ejected as result of the Flagrant T. 3) the sub for B1 shoots the 1-1 with no one on the line. 4) team A shoots the 2 shoots for the T. 5) team A gets the ball at half court.

Basket does not count. It was not a try for goal.

Foul on B1 does count and you have either 1&1 or 2 shots for team B. (Taking bonus in the general sense and not specifically the 7 to 9 foul bonus 1&1) Team B because B1 is ejected for the punch.

Sub for B1 shoots the shoots with the lane cleared.

Team A gets two shoots for the Technical on B1 and the ball at midcourt.

Thank you for not calling it a you-know-what!

I got nuthin'. B1 is the parish Priest. A1 is the
principal at the parish school. I ain't getting in the
middle of that mess! :)

good job, guys

Here's a twist. What if the ball had gone in the basket prior to the foul by A2? Would that change anything?

Of course you ask because you know it would...

If the ball had gone in, before the foul by A2, it would count. It was a live ball that went in the basket. However, having gone in, the ball is now dead. So, there is no foul on A2. The T is unchanged.

So,
1. Basket counts.
2. Flagrant T on B1. (B1 is DQ'd)
3. A shoots 2 FTs.
4. A's ball at the division line after the FTs.

Even if the ball goes in, you could still have a foul on A1. It would not be a shooting foul but you still have B in the bonus.

If the ball is dead, you should ignore contact unless it is flagrant or intentional (in which case you would have a technical foul).

Oops! I jumped the gun. You are correct to ignore the contact.
