Have you ever been assigned a "Big Game" and when you arrive to the gymnasium you run into some of your fellow officials from your area? To your suprise you are not received warmly by them, and after your game they come into the officials locker room and make negative statements on how you and your partner called the game. This can be a very uncomfortable feeling, especially when you and your partner worked very hard out there during the entire game. And you are looking for some kind of support from your fellow officials and you realized that they only came into the locker room because they hated the fact that you got assigned this game and not them.

Love2,
One thing I have learned is that there is no gain in trying to understand, or trying to deal with, ignorance.
Good luck.

Where have you been? You were missed.

Comes with the territory.

Love2ref4Ever,

I will tell you why, because they wanted to be out there themselves. If they were so good, they would be working. And better yet, they would not even want to critique your game unless you asked. You have to take people like that with a grain of salt. Officiating is a competitive vocation. And there is always someone that would like to be in the situation that you are in. If they were not, they would be officiating.

Don't hate the player, hate the game.

Peace

Next time, ask them when their next game is so you can come and criticize them. Then say, "Oh, wait - never mind. Freshman games start too early for me."

JH or Varsity.

Love2ref4Ever,

What kind of game was this?

And what level have you seen these officials officiate?

Why were they not working? Or did they tell you?

Why Do Some Officials "Player Hate?'

This was a High School Varsity Christmas Tournament Game. That was between a Powerhouse from Brooklyn against a powerhouse from Queens.(Both New York Schools)One of theese officials is a D1 womens official,(who is also a High School Boys varsity official)The other one is a Boys varsity official. The D1 official worked a earlier game in the same tournament. The other official did not get assigned a game in this tournament.

One (or a pair) in every crowd.....

They may have been qualified.... but they were not asked by the assignor. If they had a "beef" about it, they should have dealt with the assignor. Pretty damn classless behavior on their behalf.

Depending on your relationship with the assignor, you might want to mention their childish behavior to him/her. S/He may want to keep them off the court even more.

Re: Why Do Some Officials

I am not impressed. Some of the worst officials I have seen have been D1 Women's Officials. And if the other guy was all that great, he would be working too. Someone did not think they were qualified or did not trust them with this game. You should understand that you were picked, and they were not and fell confident in that.

Good for you and hope you have more games like this.

Peace

Why Do Some Officials "Player Hate?'

My Partner was the assigner!

Interesting scenario:

Then they were "bringing it to the assignor." Nonetheless, their timing was tactless. Apparently, they wanted to "seal their fate" on possible future assignments.

I presume there are plenty of other qualified, available officials bucking for a chance to do these games. One would think they would be a better option.

Oh,I get it now. These two clowns came into your dressing room after the game and crapped all over you and your partner. And your partner is the assigner. These boys either just aren't too bright(without even mentioning professional),or have full schedules for the next 18-20 years.Or both!
Rule#1:Never piss off your assigner!
Rule#2:When in doubt,refer to Rule#1!
