Leather Official Shoes

I'm looking to buy another pair of shoes for the upcoming season. However, while I was looking I was informed that the shiny black leather shoes are a thing of the past. I was told that a lot of associations are telling officials that they are too noticable. Has anyone else heard that? Also, and recomendations as of what brand of shoe to buy (sites too would be greatly appreciated!)?

I think you're talking about patent leather shoes. Most of us wear leather and they're not that noticeable. But the patents are the shiny ones that don't need polishing.

Personally, I don't like them. I think they look "fake". But I know lots of guys that do have them, so I don't think they're a no-no from a uniform standpoint. I don't know where you'd get them, tho. I would just try the normal online distributors. Somebody will be along later today to give you a direct link for them, I'm sure. :) Good luck.

Somebody's been busy already this morning!! :D

BTW, blindofficial (is that "B.O." for short?) if you check out the links at the bottom of this very page, you'll probably find a lot of the info that you're looking for.

For this pair, I used a black permanente marker to color the Chrome part of the shoes and polished it with Tarrago polish.

I love the Nike Air Max Solas...trouble is they don't make them anymore.

You can try the Nike outlet malls and E-Bay...I've gotten several pairs off of E-Bay.

That is what they look like pre-touch up.

After.

Hey Zebra,

They are nice!!! what did you do to touch up the shoes?

Magic marker and Kiwi Premere Shine sponge bottle polish.

Takes about 15-20 minutes to marker and polish both shoes the first time, than it's a touch up from heel scuffs once and awhile and a new coat of polish about once a week...takes a couple of minutes, not too bad after 4-5 games.

Do patent leather shoes really shine up?

I think the point of the patent leather is that you don't have to shine them at all. They always have the shiny plastic finish. They don't "shine up"; you just dust 'em, I guess.

Actually, you have to take care of the patent leather shoe, just like any other shoe. In fact, more if you ask me because with the investment, you want to keep these shoes looking new. I actually found some patent leather cleaner out there that really helps perserve the shine. Nothing like vasoline to get rid of schuff marks though.

I made the mistake of wearing my PL shoes at the camps. Not good, wore then out inside and with most of them not even being manufactured anymore. You can't get replacements. Only wear these shoes at the big games if you can get them.

For some reason, they look to me like they should be worn by an old cartoon character named Droopy. Don't know why - they just hit me that way. :)

Has anybody ever seen Droopy and Old School in the same room?
