...how much a coach can say to you while you are reporting a T on him for mouthing off?

Situation: A is getting beat by 35 early in the 4th quarter. A goes up for a shot, misses and A misses the next three put-backs (amid a flury of bodies). As B finally secures the rebound, A coach exclaims right in my ear (I'm Trail-table side) "YOU ARE TERRIBLE!" I stick my hand out to give him the stop sign and he says it again. BOOM-T! As I turn to the table to report, he says "Thank You (pause) YOU ARE STILL TERRIBLE!"

Does the "Law of the Land" say that he gets that last little jab, or do I run him for not getting the message?

First of all, the first "You're terrible" gets a T from me because it's a personal remark. Anything loud or arguementative after that during reporting means that coach watches the rest of the game from the parking lot.

Definitely a "T" on the first remark.

If it is personal, it deserves 'your' personal touch.

Some coaches actually have asked me to give them a "T" and after getting it, they resume coaching. I am not sure how this helps them but I guess it does.

The first "You're terrible" gets a T, no hesitation. The added jab as you are reporting the T should generally be considered a part of the first offense. He's obviouslsy still upset, so give him a little leeway, keep your distance, and get away from the table ASAP. Once you're "clear" and then he continues with more jabs, it's time for him to say "Goodnight."

Hey down by 35 points maybe he really doesn't want to be in the gym! Seriously if the coach gets the boot your partner should be the one, and right when you are reporting before you have a chance to let him know about the sit down rule (if you have the box) would be streaching it a bit.

Down by 35 I would give him a T on the first "your terrible" and make him stay around to watch this blowout with me.

I think it just makes them feel more like Gene Hackman in "Hoosiers."
