George Evans camp

Anybody ever been to this camp in Louisiana? Is it a hiring camp? Or is there a separate try-out for the SWAC?

It's a long way for me to go, so I'm just trying to find out a little bit about it.

If it's a long way for you to go, then we're all for it.

Scrapper1 Thu Jun 07, 2007 02:28pm

Just to spite you, I'll be coming back. :p

Sounds like a "look at for hiring" camp, Spanky.

Did you get an invite?

I got an application, because I asked for one. I don't think it's invite-only.

So let's break this down.

You request an application to a camp that is far away from you, then you come here to find out just a little bit about it before you go.

You say you'll be coming back, we have doubts you'll find your way.

So what are you saying?

That's exactly what I'm trying to do by starting this thread. Haven't got much help yet, though.

Nobody's been to this camp?

BBall_Junkie Fri Jun 08, 2007 06:27pm

I've been. Floor instruction is very good b/c there are a lot of NBA instructors. If Mr. Evans likes your work, you'll get hired. If he doesn't then he will take your money and thank you for coming. Its just like every other camp hosted by a D1 assignor.

I have been told that if you do not work near that conference is unlikely you will be a realistic candidate to that conference by those that actually live in those areas or work the conference. Also you may not be fully aware these are Historically Black Schools and I am sure the officials they prefer are African-American that looks like many of the participants (players, coaches, students, alumni). I may go in the future, but from what I understand it might not be the best opportunity for someone like me that lives in a completely different region of the country than the conference.

Peace

Thanks, JRut. That's kind of what I was wondering. Is it really worth my while to go all that way? The more I think about it, the less likely it seems that I will go.

I did realize it, but only because I went to the SWAC website to check out which schools were in the conference. Every person on the staff of the SWAC office (executives, not officials) seems to be African-American.
