I know this has been covered before but I don't remember how it goes. It is illegal for a player to throw the ball over someone's head and catch it before it hits the floor but is it illegal to catch what is apparenty a try before it hits the floor? Does the fact that it is a try for goal constitute an exception to the before mentioned rule? Thanks and Merry Christmas to all, Ralph.

It is legal to catch your own airball on a try. It is considered a rebound. It is not really an exception to the traveling rule because it's covered under the rule regarding a try for goal. You're right about throwing the ball over someone's head and catching it before it hits the ground. That is illegal. If it hit the ground first then that would be considered legal because it is considered the start of a dribble.

Unless he's already dribbled. ;)
