I know that backcourt has been cover many times here, but I can't remember a situation exactly like what was described to me yesterday.

A1 has possession in the FC. A1 attempts a pass to A2, but the pass is deflected into the air by B1. A2 jumps from the front court and catches the ball. A2 then lands in the BC. My first question in this case has to do with A2 jumping from the FC, securing the ball and landing in the BC. It sounds to me like A2 had FC status when he caught the ball then landed in the BC (violation).

Secondly, does the deflection have any bearing on this play?

I think I have already answered my own question, but why not bring it here to either have my expertise affirmed or "get ripped" for not getting this right.

Thanks
Mike

Thumbs up yer good.

Mike,
You're okay with that explanation.

Compare the OOB sitch, where B1 taps and A2 jumps from inbounds, catches the ball and lands out of bounds.

Same thing... only different.

1- Team A had team control.

2- The ball had FC status.

3- A2 is the last player to touch the ball before it enters the BC.

4- A2 is the first player to touch the ball after it enters the BC.

Violation.

You're right. The deflection by B1 has no bearing on the play.
