FIBA - Loose Ball

I fully understand that FIBA currently has no loose ball rule, but I made a decision in a recent game at my local association (Australia) Basically this is what happened:
  • Team A has possession of the ball
  • Player A1 shoots
  • Therefore, neither team has possession of the ball
  • As A1 lands, she leans forward, causing a foul against B1.
  • Team A is in the penalty (I.E. 9 team fouls for their half)
  • I award Team B player B1 two bonus shots

Is this call correct - My ref's coordinator says it is, but I am unsure.

Thanks everyone, I feel much better now, considering i made the call last night.

So, I could have gotten away with T-ing the Coach for disputing my call, because it was correct?

It matters not whether you're call was correct, nor that the coach disputed it. The T is earned based on how the coach disputed the call.

And as for the rules...

FIBA rules 2006:
41.2.2 If a personal foul is committed by a player of the team in control of the live ball, or of the team entitled to the ball, such a foul shall be penalised by a throw-in for the opponents.

Given that team A had no possession, nor was it entitled to the ball, your decision was correct.
As for the T... Let me put it this way: even if you had made a mistake it doesn't give the coach, or anyone else for that matter, the right to abuse you. So next time you feel abused, reach for the big T.

Cheers

Thanks all.

I have a few more situations I might question about soon, once I can completely remember them.

correct-act of shooting ends team control. Therefore team B gets the bonus

Let's not forget that you'd count the basket if it went in :p
