can anybody tell me where i can find some good heavy black socks?

I'm not sure what you mean by heavy. I buy men's black support sock from CVS. They have eliminated my shin splints. I usually wear white "footies," for lack of a better word, underneath. If you're looking for thick cotten socks, you might find them at Sports Authority. I found some thick white socks for JV and MS football games.

I've been pretty happy with the priciest black cotton sock that Penney's sells.
They seem to last as long as those $8.00 Sporting goods sock.

I bought some from Officials Purchase Supply and they are so wonderful, I started wearing them to work. I stand on my feet for 8 hours a day at work too. I have seen some in medicial stores that look good and am considering purchasing a pair to see if they are better.

I bought Nike's black socks, with a white swoosh at the top, and they have held up just fine.

Most any sporting goods store or general retailer (Kohl's, Target, Wal-Mart) will sell "athletic socks" in blakc (they're just like the white ones, but dyed differently).

Having been a soccer (that's the sport where you can't use your hands - except goalie) official for over 20 years, I use the knee-high soccer socks. They seem to wear well as I have a couple of pair that are about 3 years old. Might last longer if I ever washed them.

Just happened to remember this old thread and thought I'd put my 2 cents in. I have foot problems caused by diabetes. I have to wear "special" socks. There is a store near my house called "Foot Solutions" that specializes in footwear for persons with foot problems.

I buy a sock there made by a company named Drew. They have an extra padded sole and heel but are extremely loose on top without being saggy. They are made not to cut off circulation. Also, they have the seams on the outside of the toe, so there is nothing to rub on your toes.

They come in white or black and cost about $11 pr., but they're well worth it to me. BTW - they also make a dress sock in black that is a little thinner but made with the same features. They are easily the most comfortable sock I have ever worn.
