Rules on Tape

Curious - has anyone ever come out with rules or case plays on audio tape? I know they change every year but I kinda wonder if anyone thought to provide audio versions of the books. Kinda dry material in some sections (see Rule 1) but for those like me who spend an hour a day in the car, I'd be interested in a refresher every once and a while.

Plus....my ADD wont let me sit still long enough to sit down and read.

Let me know if you've seen anything out there

I thought you were looking for the rules on tape for the visually impaired, since most fans think we're blind anyway.:D

Larks are you my lost twin? :p

I've looked into this and have not found any rulebooks in audio format. I did start doing it myself but it required a lot of time (and I probably couldn't have sat and listened to my own voice for more then 5 seconds )

I would think that NFHS would make a killing with this and increase the knowledge of officials everywhere! I've called their office before but didn't get very far. I also called the publisher for the NCAA rule book.

Aren't there schools for the blind that convert written books to audio?

All those long drives to and from games could be used to bone up on our rule knowledge!

Adobe PDF Reader 8 has text-to-speech capabilities.

If someone has the ability to export the books to PDF, Reader can output to audio. :)

Just found this one:

http://www.nextup.com/TextAloud/index.html

$30

It's supposed to convert a text file or PDF to MP3

I'll report back with my progress

Go to:
http://www.download.com/

Under "SEARCH"-in "software"- punch in "text to speech", filter the results by "free programs", and you'll get 52 hits on free programs to try.

If you insist on "nextup", e-mail me.

Seems like Next Up is ok trying the demo but MS Sam is pretty bad. I wonder how well the ATT voices would work. I ran it on a PDF I grabbed from NCAA.org. I'd say it was 98% recognizing the words. I dont know if I could handle Sam 30 min of that straight. It was pretty choppy.

I resemble that remark.
