Louisiana poised to give officials a raise
|
|

Raise approved. How much do you make?
Basketball officials get $36/official plus travel in a two-man crew. $31/official with travel in a three-person crew.

Wow. In CT, I make more than that for a middle school/JV/freshman game!
I'm assuming that Louisiana is a much bigger football state - $75/official/game seems to indicate where the schools' priorities lie.

We get $60 for 3-person plus $30 travel (one car) if we travel over 50 miles plus tolls. This will be our second year at that amount. We generally get a 10% raise in all sports every two years.

From the article:
"Certified football officials will earn $75 per game, volleyball officials $55 per two-person crew for a three-of-five match, basketball officials $36 apiece per game for a two-person crew and baseball and softball officials $55 and $47.50 for two-person crews." Okay, this needs some clarification. The article clearly states that it is $36 for each basketball official, but it is not so clear with the other fees. How many football officials are on each game? Is it $75 for the entire crew or for each official? Volleyball looks like it is $55/2 = $27.50 for each official. Baseball and softball might also be $27.50 and $23.75 for each official. So can someone from LA please clarify? BTW Nevada basketball officials receive $49.50 for each official on varsity games, and we use three officials on the vast majority of the contests. Only the very small schools get only two officials. |

Im in Baton Rouge, Nevada and I will clear up for you.
In terms of basketball it will be 36 for each game, we do 2 game sometimes 3 game sets plus travel. Here in Baton Rouge we get a flat 15 dollar fee so a typical GV and BV would be 36+36+15 which is 87 bucks. Last year the most we could make on a similar set was 58. This is for certified officials which means you made a 90 or above on a test made up by our officiating supervisor. If you are registered(70-79 on test) or approved (80-89) you recieve a 5 dollar demotion respectively. Most parts of LA also use 3 officials for varsity contests. In terms of football in LA we use a 5 man crew with an official clock keeper. The 75 dollars is for a certified (C) offiial, approved (A) is 65, registered (R) 55. This is for each official. The clock operators now get 40. If your a white hat(referee) you get a 15 bonus so a certified referee gets 90. The previous was 65(C),55(A),45(R) and 27 (CO) with a 5 dollar bonus for a white hat. Regarding Volleyball and Baseball Im not real sure since I dont officiate those sports. Hope this clears it up for you. BTW Nevada are you southern or northern NV. |

I don't know if he is on or not, but he is from Northern Nevada (Reno).

I would love to get paid for the game plus travel. Ours is flat rate and it is less than 36 a game (don't forget no travel. Plus I easily drive 50+ miles alot.) So we come out making very little, but I think we get a $5 raise for the next 2 yrs. I think.

Dave,
I have to wonder why the basketball refs would accept such a low game fee when the football guys are cleaning up. That seems insane to me. Furthermore, it is grossly unfair. PS Yes, I'm in Reno, and yes, Ratner is still the Commish in Vegas. |
