Warning!! Danger!! Annual Off-topic Hockey Thread '07!! Beware!!

On second thought....

.....never mind.

JugglingReferee Tue Apr 10, 2007 05:56am

Whatever.... I'm in. Hockey is certainly more entertaining than baseball.

Leafs: I'm glad they are not in the playoffs. They don't deserve to be. If they got in, they'd lose in the first round. Then they might think the season was successful. Their season sucked.

Sure. Where else can you see a boxing match, a street brawl and a mugging all for the price of a single ticket?

And, to top it off, your beer stays colder, longer.

It is? That must be why ESPN and every other major channel in America took Hockey off their stations and the strike was almost unnoticed by the general public. Hockey must be a really exciting sport. :D

Peace

Come on now, Jeff...how many times have you seen a fan throw a squid out onto the diamond??? Hockey is obviously way more entertaining than baseball!!

And in the big hockey brawls they always pull each others jerseys over the head so the other guy can't fight back - don't see that in any of those boring baseball brawls.

The US screwed hockey up. We'll just keep planting our loonie in your backyard while winning on your home ice.

Baseball's fights consist of a 78 year old man and a 20-something young man. At least there are fair fights in hockey. ;)

He's gotcha there, rock.

What's your comeback? Huh?

C'mon rocky, don't let those Canadians get the best of you. Let 'em have it!

Having lived my entire life in states which border Canada, I have developed a strong sense of pity for those poor wretches who are forced to live there, so I really have no comeback to give poor JugglingReferee...I do, however, speak fluent Canadian, so when he responds back to this post I am quite sure I will understand exactly what he is calling me!

Cool.

I think we started one of them international incidents.

It's always boring around here in the off-season anyway.

This movie was shot in 3B - three beers and it looks good, eh?

This guy's a fake.

Not a single word about curling, back bacon, t'ron'o or Dudley Doright in his entire rant.

Eh.

JugglingReferee Tue Apr 10, 2007 03:51pm

I saw the JOE CANADIAN rant live at Maple Leaf Gardens back in '99. The Rock defeated Rochester for the NLL title that year.

As for other humour, it'd be nice for some other to reach SOTB. Like Red Green (think duct tape), Mike Myers, Phil Hartman, Martin Short, Eugene Levy, Dan Akroyd, John Candy. ;)

Adam Tue Apr 10, 2007 03:55pm

Hockey? Isn't that a cross between soccer and curling?

Rick Moranis, Catherine O'Hara, Tommy Chong, Tom Green (funny for the first 15 minutes) and Howie "No Deal Howie!" Mandell.

mplagrow Tue Apr 10, 2007 04:14pm

Hockey?

Huh? When did the NHL come off of the 2004 strike?

Red Green is fantastic!!

tjones1 Tue Apr 10, 2007 09:04pm

So who is the feared lower seed to be up against in the first round?

canuckrefguy Tue Apr 10, 2007 09:42pm

Probably the Calgary Flames or Minnesota Wild in the West, and maybe Tampa Bay or Pittsburgh in the East.

If Fleury gets hot in goal and Sid Crosby steps up in his first playoffs, the Pens will be tough to beat - they have just enough veteran grit to do some damage.

What do you think, Rut? :D

You can take it back if you like. You would have about as many people care about the game as you have right now.

Peace

Sweet. That was easy. And I didn't even need to press Staples' Easy button.

Dear Mr. Commisioner, Gary Bettman

As dictated by JRut, please hand over command of the NHL back to people who care deeply about the game, namely Canadians.

Yup, Americans don't care about hockey. ;)

Probably for the same reason I don't.
Hockey in the States is like a television series on the Sci Fi channel. There aren't a ton of fans, but they're all rabid, loony, and just a bit dangerous.

I don't think he was bashing the series at all.

Just the people that watch them. :D

Not bashing the series. I'm still pissed they killed Wash in the movie, and a second season is the least they can do for the fans now.

Now, when is Murphy going to be let in on Harry's secret?

I said the fans are few, not that the product was poor. :)

Now, what were we talking about again? Oh yeah, curling.

If we're going to talk curling, I'm in. Great sport! One of my favorite intramural events next to broomball. We always lost out to the grad students though. They had experience on their side....and we might have had a beverage or two before we showed up to play.

Quite the interesting first round shaping up....

Flames are back from the dead.

Ditto Dallas.

The whiz kids and co. go down hard at the hands of Ottawa

Rangers sweep and the Bolts may surprise.

Some good action so far.

And if you cruise the fan forums, there's the usual b*tching about the officiating :D

26 Year Gap Fri Apr 20, 2007 09:23pm

I still think Detroit will move along. Same with Vancouver. I think NJ-TB will go 7. NYR really wan't much below Atlanta in the standings--the result did not surprise me. They probably are pulling for TB, though. Hoping for Det-NYR final. But, then, I'm an Original 6 kinda guy.
