I admit I'm new to the whole baseball fan thing. So could you gently tell me what HBP is? I don't care if you feel any empathy, just don't be insulting or sarcastic. Thanks

Juulie - it means "hit by pitch". Not to be confused with the rhyming move that signifies a slap from a girlfriend - "HBB". :p

Horace Bernard Pearson was the first player plunked and since then his initials are used to designate a player hit by pitch.

Obvious and clearly over the top staged taunting by a player.

Wow, Dan, that's so helpful.

Mick,
He said 1980, not 1880. :D

Did he say before or after ? http://smilies.vidahost.com/ups/sicdeth/headscratch.gif

True, mick, but he probably didn't mean to go all the way back to JR's time. :)

Oh.

Maybe I missed it...when did they decide 1880 comes after 1980?

Juulie, he meant that the taunting was obvious, not that the meaning of the phrase is obvious.

NFL players have done this move to celebrate scoring a TD.

Go tribe!

Well, it may or may not hold up, but so far tonight, the Sox look pretty good, and Carmona, well, not so much.

ChuckElias Sat Oct 20, 2007 08:22pm

I have to get up at an ungodly hour tomorrow for my college meeting, so I'm not sure if I'll be able to stay awake till the end of this one; but I am sure that I won't be posting afterward. So I'll just say now, that I'm happy with the way the first couple innings have gone. If Schill can hold them off for another 4 innings, that'll be a big plus.

Go Sox!
