John Higgins Info

Can anyone here give me some background on John Higgins?

He officiated the Tennessee/Virginia game in Columbus and had a call late in the game on a foul against Sean Singletary where he (correctly) waved off the ensuing shot. A local sports talk show took him to task for waving off the shot after it went in, although I clearly saw Higgins point to the floor when he blew his whistle.

In any event the sports guy said that type of call would keep Higgins from working again in the tournament. I emailed the guy and argued that Higgins made the right call and used the right technique.

Since Higgins worked the Ga/UNC game today, I would like to write again and embellish with some statistics on Higgins' accomplishments, if any of you can help me.

Thanks

John is Tim's son. He is named for Tim's good friend John Clougherty, who reciprocally named his son Tim.

John Higgins is from Omaha and NO relation to Tim Higgins the NCAA official.. He has worked in the Big XII, Big X, Big East and most other conferences. He is also a great guy who has helped a lot of officials in the Omaha/Lincoln area... Hope he continues to move on....

John is a very good official. I see him all the time working in the Big Ten, Big 12, and the Big East.

He worked of ton of games this year along with a lot of high profile games as well.

It would not surprise at all to dad and son make the trip to Atlanta this coming weekend.

Dad and Son or No?

So, we have a conflict here.

Are Tim and John related?

Article on Referee magazine mentions three daughters - but no son.

Steve Welmer (:D) calls him a "great family man".

No, they are not. Tim Higgins has three daughters, no sons.

Nice try, NV.

John Higgins vindicated?

Well, being assigned to the National Championship Game surely trumps any local broadcasters' criticism. But as I tweeted twice during first half, CBS needs to get a retired REF into the booth or in the production truck to keep their on-air analysts from misstating, misunderstanding, and misinterpreting the NCAA rules. Retired NBA guys forget (or never knew) the rules they played under as collegiate athletes. Kellogg gets paid a lot of money to not know what he's talking about....although he likes to comment on the officiating at almost every whistle. Sometimes his opinions are valid. But usually they are based on his misunderstanding of the actual rules of competition -- not the opinions or judgement of the officials on the court.

PS -- if NEV or anyone doesn't know something to be a fact, don't post it, esp a ridiculous story about TH and JC naming their sons after each other. It undermines this forum when conjecture trump facts.

You're only about 6 years too late to the party.
