Gtown/UNC OT

Both "held ball" calls in OT on UNC offensive end good calls or good judgement calls? just seeing if anyone had any insight

First one was excellent. The second one was not called a held ball. They called it a travel.
I don't believe that was right.

on the second call, I meant "travel" and I wrote "held ball" bc that is what I thought the official was going to come out with...i also agree with the first call

1st one good call...2nd call should have been a held ball too it seemed and not a travel.

tjones1 Sun Mar 25, 2007 07:08pm

In real time, I thought the second should have been a held ball too. I haven't seen a replay yet.

BktBallRef Sun Mar 25, 2007 07:10pm

It's either a held ball or nothing but a travel...I have no idea where they came up with that.

DISCLAIMER: It had nothing to do with the Carolina losing. The Hoyas wanted it more.

Held ball or foul were the options that I thought watching it live.

If you see the replay on this one, watch the C in front of the Carolina bench. He gives the hands together "clap" and appears about to call a held ball, when the T makes the traveling call.

Why the T would get involved in that play well outside of his area is beyond me. It seemed that the C had the best look and didn't need any help.

It was a travel because he came down, got control of the ball and shuffled his feet. It is not a held ball based on NCAA interpretations because the ball was coming out before he got to the floor. I think it was a good call.

Peace

I thought from start to finish the crew did a very nice job with this game. Good calls and good no calls at both ends of the floor.

If that is, in fact, what happened on the play, then what you wrote is correct. I'll have to go check my tape and watch it a couple of times in slow-mo to determine the facts of the play.

I didn't see the ball pop loose, so I figured the travel had to have happened after he landed....

He traveled before the shot.

He was fouled on the shot.

It was not a held ball.

I can't tell whether he traveled after the shot. He released the ball on the dribble very quickly. It was a weak travel but I believe Rut is correct. That's what the T called.

I thought the first call was excellent.

If as Rut said the ball came out of hands which we couldn't really see from the downward angle of the game camera then the travel was a great call also, because he secured the ball and then moved around. I think he thought it was going to be called a held ball .

He didnt "secure" the ball as in holding it. He immediately dribbled.

Would you call this a "game interrupter?"
