Very interesting read

I agreed with almost everything that the author wrote with the strong exception being:
"He loves dissecting strategies and understands the sport as well as anyone. He's always impeccably prepared. He has a knack for pointing out things before they happen. His arguments are usually well-reasoned."

Packer is none of those. He has a rudimentary knowledge of the game, a total lack of understanding of the rules, and his preparation amounts to nothing more than longevity as he constantly references some game from 1977. The author is correct that his routine has become tiresome and outlived its welcome.

NOTE TO CBS: FIRE PACKER!!! "...32 years is more than enough."

Packer couldn't come close to passing a rules exam if it was open book and the rule/case citation was in the margin of every question.

"He has a knack for pointing out things before they happen. "

Usually what he says is, "If they don't start doing such and so, they'll never be able to break the press." And at that moment they break the press without doing such and so. So he points it out alright, but it's always the opposite of how it turns out.

Packer should pack it in.

P-E-C-K-E-R, the name is Pecker, not Packer.

Is someone down there in ACC country upset that he has to listen to him almost every game? :p

An exam like this exists? Why was I not informed?

I'm preparing to teach a class/studying for next year's exam/doing research for a term paper. Could somebody please send me a copy of that exam with the answers? Thanks. ;)

Unfortunately, the fact that he was chosen to work the games is more an indictment of broadcasting than reinforcement of knowledge, communication skills and tact.

He is like DV and assumes that outrageous, in-your-face commentary works for all viewers -- even those with IQ's in double figures.

As to his ability to comment on things before they happen -- sitting courtside, these guys see a coach get up signaling a TO (not seen by a TV camera), and start screaming to their tv audience "He needs a timeout...he need's a timeout" as if they have insight.

I have heard however, that one of the two forementioned announcers are committed for next season's "Dancing with the Stars".

Had the misfortune of bumping into Packer years ago in the Atlanta airport and I casually mentioned to him while waiting in line that the duke/nc game was quite a game. Maybe said one sentence to him. He gave me look as if I puked on his gucci shoes. Miserable old man. That said, he's always been a lousy color guy.
