Your team is not in the ...wait for it...the SEC.

Nevadaref Fri Mar 09, 2007 10:05pm

Yep, the WAC gets two teams. Nevada just lost to Utah State 79-77 in the semifinals.

co2ice Fri Mar 09, 2007 10:51pm

GO AGGIES!!!!!!!!!!!!:) Man what a game!!!

Nevadaref Fri Mar 09, 2007 10:58pm

They earned it and Jaycee Carroll is a wonderful player.

Did you know he came out of high school in Evanston Wyoming averaging over 30 points a game and only USU offered him any thing? The fans at Wyoming were ticked at the coach and staff at Wyoming for passing on this kid, He is truely a remarkable young man! And only a junior so we get him one more year!

cmathews Sat Mar 10, 2007 12:16pm

not everyone

not everyone in Wyoming was ticked...I for one wasn't. Yes he can shoot lights out, and did in Evanston, I wasn't sold on his defense or his size then, and still am not. I am not sure the MWC would be a good league for him, it is too physical and the guards for the most part are either too big or too quick for him. Just my opinion, he certainly has done well at Utah State. Then again I am one of the few Steve McClain supporters left in Wyoming LOL...:D

aka..Jon Diebler, Jr.

I thought the refs were to blame for your team not getting an at-large bid.

I totally disagree. That kid could play anywhere, including a program like Duke.
Also, I don't believe that the MWC teams are tougher or better than those in the WAC. UNLV, which just won the MWC tourney, beat Nevada this year in Reno and it was by far Nevada's worst game of the year. 1-15 from 3pt range.
I think that these two conferences are about even.
I would love to see a challenge between these two conferences, such as the ACC does with the Big Ten and did with the Big East. It would be exciting.

Nevadaref Sat Mar 10, 2007 10:43pm

BTW didn't his brother play at Notre Dame?

Yeah, it would be the "Remember the old WAC?" tourney.;)

cmathews Mon Mar 12, 2007 09:34am

Yeah I agree that would be a good thing to have. It would go over pretty good locally. I do disagree with your assesment of the two conferences, but I doubt either of us is looking really through plain clear glasses LOL...Carroll's scoring ability speaks for itself, but I just don't like the rest of his game, never have.

My team isn't in because our previous coach recruited a bunch of me first players and when he finally got canned, the cupboard was empty. Give us another year or two and we'll be back. Luckily last night our local cable provider was showing a Big 12 Championship game from 2000 when we were the 2nd best team in the nation. Oh, how I miss winning. :D

Mwc 6-2 Vs Wac

In the MWC versus the WAC this year the MWC holds a 6-2 edge

I think your research needs some work. :) You missed a few games. The MVC was 8-3 vs the WAC this season.

Air Force: No WAC opponents = 0-0
BYU: lost 68-72 @ Boise State, won 81-69 vs San Jose State, won 75-62 vs Utah State = 2-1
Colorado State: won 67-50 vs Boise State, game @ Boise State cancelled = 1-0
New Mexico: won 79-76 vs New Mexico State on 11/28, lost @ NMS 72-103 on 12/5 = 1-1
San Diego State: No WAC opponents = 0-0
TCU: No WAC opponents = 0-0
UNLV: won 73-59 vs Hawaii on 11/10, won 61-58 @ Hawaii on 12/6, won 58-49 @ Nevada = 3-0
Utah: lost 57-60 @ Utah State = 0-1
Wyoming: won 94-79 vs Boise State = 1-0

Some points:
Five games were played at WAC sites, six at MWC sites.
Utah State was 1-1 vs the MWC, UNLV was the only team to from either conference to win a road game, all three of the WAC wins were at home.

UNLV's 3-0 tilted it in the MWC's favor this year. They are a good team and deservedly is in the NCAA tournament. However, BYU was the only other MWC team to make the tourney. The WAC also landed two teams in the big dance: Nevada and New Mexico State.

Each conference also got two teams in the NIT. MWC: Air Force and San Diego State; WAC: Fresno State and Utah State

Despite the 8-3 record in favor of the MWC this year, it still seems to me that the two conferences are on par with each other. They should definitely work out a challenge deal! :)

I agree I missed some

I did it seems miss some, but we all know about you research skills :D so actually I should have just asked you to do it in the first place LOL......and in the WNIT there is at least 1 MWC WAC matchup...and it is your Wolfpack and my Cowgirls :)....goooooo pokes :)....and do you know any good coaches that are available...I think every D-1 school in the front range is looking for one if not now soon....LOL

Nevadaref Tue Mar 13, 2007 06:58pm

Yeah, I saw that Wyoming sacked Steve McClain after nine years.

The WNIT matchup was on the news last night. An interesting note was provided too. La Tech which finished in second place in the WAC regular season (actually a tie for 1-2, but lost out on the tiebreaker) was offered the WNIT bid first, but declined and the Wolfpack (3rd place regular season) was next in line.

Does anyone know of any other schools to decline an NIT bid (mens or womens) this season?
