Conference Tournaments

I'm starting a thread where people can post the happenings in the various conference tournaments and also provide their opinions of them. Do you like them or would you prefer that the regular season champ get the automatic bid? Perhaps the conference tourney champs could playoff with other conference tourney champs for the remaining NCAA berths. Please share other ideas.

PAC-10 Update:
Oregon clocks Arizona 69-50 and Lute Olson once again makes his point about how much he dislikes the conference tournament. His team rarely ever shows up.

Cal upsets UCLA in OT 76-69 !!!

In America East, the usual case is that one team is worthy to go to the NCAAs and that is the regular season champ. Vermont looks to be that team again this year, but if they lose the championship game they would be 25-7 and in the usual fashion, the NIT will pick some 14-14 club from the ACC, or...wait for it...the SEC... that went 5-11 in their conference instead. I don't have a problem with the conference tournaments except when a conference like this gets left out of both tournaments in favor of some big conference also-ran. Vermont did thump BC early this season, but if they lose, I don't think they will get selected. Happens all the time in this conference.

But no matter what, Billy Packer will be a jerk on the selection show.

Sure it might happen....but in all likely hood, that 5-11 team from the ACC or SEC would likely thump Vermont. To suggest otherwise is particularly silly. Sure, exceptions do happen but why penalize a team for being in 1 of the 2 toughest conferences in the land. In fact, the SEC is full of teams around .500 this year. They're so close, the've been beating each other almost at ramdom. Does this necessarily make them all bad? No...it just means that they're similar.

Just FYI (and I'm not sure if anyone else brought it up), any team that wins its conference regular-season championship but then does not get an NCAA bid is guaranteed a spot in the NIT.

This must be new policy then. Vermont lost its big man in the first minute then had the ball down by one with 32 seconds and did not get a shot off. 25-7 & off to the NIT, I guess.

First put in place last year. (My guess - as a result of the NCAA owning the NIT.)

Terps lose again.....

Late in the 2nd half Miami is at the line shooting two as a Terp has fouled out. The announcers are screaming as Md only has 4 players on the court. Gary Williams sends someone on the court in the middle of the free throws and goes balistic on his assistants..... how could they let that happen? Gary sweats, he rants, he raves, he gestures.....same ole, same ole!

Another squandered opportunity for Md to get back on the Nat'l scene.....

That doesn't sound good for the officials either.

In the ACC, three games - three upsets, based on seeding.

11 seconds left, Duke inbounds the ball, dribbles to half court, the clock starts late.

Officials stop the clock, RESET theclock, and GO BACK to the endline.

IOW, a DO OVER!

If MTD was watching, I'm sure he had a stroke!!

What did I miss? The paramedics just took the oxygen mask off me.

I guess the NCAAM are going to have to put out a bulletin similar to the NCAAW that specifies "no do-overs."

At this rate, I'm picking Wake to win the ACC Tournament. I may be correcting myself in an hour or so though.

I may be wrong, but I believe what happened is that the clock started before the throw-in ended and then the clock stopped when Duke player started dribbling.

No mention about numbers in the rule:
NCAA Rule 3-5 Art. 7. A commemorative/memorial patch, flag or ribbon is permitted within the 4-inch side insert of the game jersey, anywhere on the game pants, anywhere on warm-up suits and within the area of the game jersey between the base of the front neckline and the shoulder seam of the jersey. When the commemorative/memorial patch or ribbon is on the shoulder strap of the game jersey, it shall be sewn on or attached with Velcro.
