Score the basket?
Tie game, time is running out. A1 passes the ball to A2. A2 dribbles the lenght of the floor. A2 jumps and dunks the ball as time expires. Video review shows the ball is 3/4 through the basket but is still being palmed by the shooter as time expires.

The clock has to have 0:00 so the cancel can take place if the hands are on the ball. |
Reality - score the basket.
#1, what you see in a video don't mean diddley. #2, no player can dunk the ball and still have his hands on the ball when it's 3/4s of the way through the basket. That would require him to have his entire forearm inside the basket. Gimme a break. |

2. Every dunk I've ever seen with any power ended with the dunker releasing the the ball after his hand or wrist hits the rim and the ball is always through or nearly through the basket. BktBallRef.....just having a little fun with the question, no need to bow up. |
NCAA 6-5-1 AR 140 sez no goal.
A.R. 140. A1 rises and grabs the rebound clearly outside of the cylinder and, while airborne, dunks. Both hands are on the ball and in the basket when the red light or LED lights are activated, or when the light(s) are not present, the game clock horn sounds to signify the end of the period. RULING: This shall be ruled no goal; however, when the ball leaves the hands of A1 before the red light or LED lights are activated, or when the light(s) are not present, the game-clock horn sounds to signify the end of the period, the dunk shall be considered the same as a try in flight; and the goal shall count. |
