What Camps are you going to?
 

Hey Just curious to see what camps you guys are going to attend as summer approaches.

Chances are I'll spend a few days camping at the Russian RIver campground this year. I'll also camp a weekend or 2 down near seward at the Trail River campground, and probably Ninilchik for a weekend or 2. Sumertime camping in Alaska is the greatest!!! :D

Anybody have any recommendation for camps near the central coast of California that might be good for a newer official to get some instruction. Most of what I see so far are college level camps.

California Camps
 

The two camps I know that gear towards newer officials are the Chico camps in June and they have one in Orange County also in June. The one in Orange county specicially is for 2 man HS officials. Haven't been but heard it was good.....

I've heard AK in the summer is something to behold. Looks like I'll get a chance to see for myself this July.

May I suggest to you " Be a lead Camp" www.bealead.com. This is directed by Martin Cota and Danny Yee. Both have DI experience in the PAC 10 and may other conferences in DI, DII, DIII and JC level. It is a very good camp to go to if you want to become a better high school official or want to enter into the college ranks. I went for the past 2 years. My very first time attending the camp after 2 years of high school ball under belt, well actaually 1 but thats a different story and my first camp in general I was hired for college ball. It is a great camp and you will learn a lot that will make you better than you already are. I know he has like 2 or four this summer. If you register now you can got to one camp for a $150 and he has a combo session where its two camp one at UCI Universtity California Irvine and APU Azusa Pacific for like $175 I think. UCI is high school play and APU is JUCO play. Very Good camps, great staff, great food(catered), and you will attain much knowlege. Hit me up for more info or check out the site www.bealead.com.

Thanks for the information Tommy. I found that camp (kudos to Google), I also came across the Jerry Scott camp mentioned by AFHusker. I'm concerned about attending a camp that might be over my head and geared toward more advanced officials and/or officials with a few years of experience under their belts.

Another concern is finding a camp that focuses on two person mechanics as everything around here is 2 person except boys varsity.

Everything will be three man soon. I would try UCI. Most officials there only know 2 person coming in, but you will learn it.

I strongly recommend Al Raya's camp at Illinois College (edited), held the last weekend in June (or so). The focus is on NCAAW, but it will make you a better IHSA ref.

Bob - just a clarification, it's been at Illinois College in Jacksonville.

I also agree that it's a good camp. All of the clinicians are very helpful and knowledgable, and it's a fun time overall. As Bob noted, the focus is NCAA-W, but there are also IHSA-certified clinicians there that can help you with high school mechanics. In fact, the past couple of years they have set it up where you can get credit for attending the IHSA 6-hour clinic requirement.

JB Caldwell's Camp in Daytona Beach. Went last year and had a blast. I met some great people as well.

In addition to JB's camp, I'm looking to go to 2 other camps. Any good Chicago camps? Or other Florida camps.

And yes, I live in Texas. :D
