How stupid are coaches?

It's a rhetorical question, but really a serious one.

Here's the situation. I am doing a play off game. 1st round. Girls. The visiting team has an assisitant coach that I tossed ( my 1st eviction ever ) about 3 weeks ago. As we go over to shake the coaches hands, I am last in line (there are 3 of us ) I shake the head coaches hand and go to shake the assistant ( he shook hands with both of my partners ) and he pulled his hand away.... I always wondered was it me or was it him that was the problem. Now I have my answer.

Ever have a coach not shake your hand? I understand if it's because of illness, but this wasn't. I'd say I referee about 3 or 4 of his games a year....didn't seem like a smart move to me.

A coach can hold a grudge, but we as officials had better not or it will effect how we call a game. Not that during a game a coach actions or words will not cause us to give him a T he earns, but we all really need to try to not "go into the game" with bad feelings towards a coach.

He being an assistant do not worry about it. He will get over the ejection.

Why not just eject him now and get it over with? :D

About as stupid as the CYO Coach who successfully convinced the officials in our playoff game that the 20 point no-press and required sub rule didn't apply?

If he did that to me and it was me giving the prgame talk I'd make sure to mention that assistants get to do nothing during the game, I'd say this while looking at the assistant and his head coach. Then it would be game time so I would let it go and not worry about it, unless of course he causes trouble then deal with him again.

I'm in this camp. Unsportsmanlike conduct. And then the HC loses the box for the game too. :D

He is the assistant coach of the Varsity team.

But he is the head coach of the JV team. That where I toss him from 3 weeks ago. I referee 3 or 4 of his JV games a year.

I am not holding a grudge, but I have given him the benefit of the doubt several times this year and last year. I was wondering if it was me that had the problem and not him, but now I know.

Earlier this year, in one of his games, I was reporting a foul and he was yelling at me, I couldn't tell what he was yelling, I was concentrating on table. When I turned to see what he was saying, he was at the foul line talking to one of his players. My 1st thought was, that's a "T", he can't be on the floor lie that, then I relalized he had asked for a time out, but I hadn't granted it yet. I let it go. I promise you that won't happen next year.

grudge? No, he broke the rules and he won't without a price from now on.

Again, it makes it look like I have the problem. It's a play off game. His team lost by over 20. Last year his team was the #1 team in the area. This year last place...

Nothing gets an assistant coach over his last ejection like the next one! ;) :D

TF,

You should have apologized to this assistant and told him how valuable a coach he is to this game. You know you cannot just shake the hand of the assistant to show respect. You have to get down on your knees and give them the respect of God because doing so would be unprofessional.

Peace

We still haven't answered the original question of "How stupid. . ."

Let me wax poetic.

How wet is water?
How sarcastic is Norm Macdonald?
How black is the cover of "Smell the Glove?"
