In the glare

I'm a first year ref who up to last week worked 5th-8th grade girls games, in the "no testosterone zone." Now I'm working HS boys in a rec league. Pleasantly surprised to find I can still run back and forth with these kids at 56. Tonight, I'm in lead and a kid on the offense hits the floor right in front of me after some contact on a rebound attempt. I did not see a foul so I make no call and start trailing the play going the other way. He looks up at me and verbalizes some frustration about not getting a foul call as I pass him. For the next 3 or 4 dead balls he just glares at me. I make eye contact with him, but otherwise do not react and go about my business. If he opened his mouth I would have T'd him in a heart beat, but figured that if all he did was glare, that was his problem.

Any comments?

I wouldn't make any sign that I noticed him. He's hurting himself and his team by losing focus. That's his problem.

If it bothered me, I'd confront him, tell him theat his teammate knocked him down and ask him to quit looking at me in that tone of voice. :)

I always used a quote from the movie An Officer and a Gentlemen. "You better stop eyeballing me boy." It always worked for me.:p
