Legal screen or not?

looks clean -- nasty, but clean

Time and distance? Any thoughts.

Eastshire Fri Feb 16, 2007 05:04pm

I see two steps by the defense after the player sets the screen so legal contact.

j51969 Fri Feb 16, 2007 05:06pm

The announcer said the ref didn't see it. I think he and deemed it a good screen. Really close could go either way.

Terrapins Fan Fri Feb 16, 2007 05:07pm

I have no problem with it....the ref was right on top of it, how can the announcer say " the refs didn't see it" ????

deecee Fri Feb 16, 2007 05:08pm

" see two steps by the defense after the player sets the screen so legal contact."

does that apply in this instance?

SeanFitzRef Fri Feb 16, 2007 05:09pm

Last angle at the end shows the screener adjusting her position to force the contact. This one is all about angles. From the last angle it looks illegal. First viewing looked clean.

Terrapins Fan Fri Feb 16, 2007 05:10pm

Just from memory, The rule is time and distance on a player without the ball, screened from behind. This is from the side. The offensive player could have seen her if she were looking or if a team mate had called out the pick.

I am saying it's a good screen. You have the benefit of a reply, at game speed, good screen.

I agree. Last view was the one that did it for me, which should have been the T's view.

This is not the rule.

Me too. The first angle it looks like she was moving toward the defender. The last angle looks like she was still moving laterally. Illegal screen.

True, but the screener must hold position. Screener slides over at the last second to adjust to position of the defender and forces the contact. That eliminates the time and distance factor because it is no longer there.
