Player/Bench personell

Boys J.V. game 3 qtr. I am lead official, Rebounding action and I call A-1 for a hold. I go to table and report the foul. A-1 realizing it is his fifth foul heads towards bench. Official scorer looks up and gives me the fifth foul signal. A-1 walks by me pauses and says "your joking right? your crazy" Of course I whack him and his coach comes out and is chastizing the young man quite intensley. The rest of the game the coach never left his seat and said absolutly nothing (this was a four point game, and five points resulted from the tech.). We never went over and told the coach that he was seatbelted, I think he just assumed he was. Question is at what point would you consider the player bench personell, would it be upon notifying the coach? Or when the sub is brought in. This was probably one of the best games I think I have ever done as far as officiating.

4-14-2 . . . A player is officially disqualified and becomes bench personnel when the coach is notified by an official.

By rule, you notify the coach, then the player. Once the coach is notified, the player is now bench personnel.

Whenever you notify the coach, the player is considered bench personel. Tell the coach, start the timer, then tell the player.

Thanks...

I was pretty sure it was when the coach was notified. The player ran his mouth after I got the signal from the table but before I notified the coach.

I had something similar earlier this week. 6:41 left in the 4th, V#41 hammers player going in for a layup. I'm lead & whistle him for the block - it's number 5 on him. He immediately turns towards me and comes towards me yelling in an angry tone "Oh my God, how could you call that" - whack, immediate T. Now he's got 6 fouls, but nothing on the HC, since we hadn't even gotten close to reporting it yet, let alone notifying him of the DQ.......
