Confusing rules on monitor usage

Nevadaref asked a similar question in the middle of another thread and it never got answered. I'm asking again today because somebody asked me about it this morning and I went to look it up. And now I'm confused.

NCAA 2-5-2 says that the officials can go to the monitor to determine if a field goal try was released before the game clock showed 0.00 at the end of either half (a addresses the first half and d addresses the second half).

However, NCAA 2-5-3 says that the officials may not use the monitor to determine if (d) the shot was released before the activation of the LED/red light or (d-a) the shot was released before the horn.

But didn't we just have this big discussion after the Big Sky game where we decided that if you go to the monitor, you look first for the game clock, then the light, then the horn? Now, 2-5-3 is saying you can't use the monitor for the light or the horn.

So what's the correct thing to do?

I still have no idea. All that I know is that section of the NCAA rules book is a mess and needs to be rewritten soon. :(

Just do what most of the rest of us do:

Don't work media games. Then it's easy, right?
