Free throws or not?
Team A inbounding the ball under its own basket. Illegal screen on A2 called before the ball was thrown from Player A1. 1) Does Team B get to shoot bonus if theam B is in the bonus? 2) what if ball is released but not in the hands of any player and a foul called on A2?

You shoot the FTs because team control has not been established.

There is still no team control during a throw-in under NFHS rules. Therefore, you cannot have a team control foul until the throw-in ends (ball is touched inbounds). Hence, the bonus will be awarded if merited in these situations.
This is not the case in the NCAA. |
Agree, no team control...shoot FTs if in the bonus...

... and again, I need to stop wayching NCAA games :)

Premature Punch
I hate to admit this, but twice this year, during a throw-in situation, as the nonadministering official, I've seen illegal screens by the offensive team, and used the punch signal to indicate a team control foul. In the first case my partner told me that the ball hadn't been inbounded yet, so no team control, and no team control foul. The second time, after I punched, I observed that the inbounder still had the ball, and I gave the correct signals at the table. The only good thing about this is that it proves that I'm not looking outside my primary and "ball watching".

I highly recommend that you watch as many NCAA games as you can. The vast majority of the mechanics and rules are the same as the NFHS game. It is really a great way to improve. At the same time, I strongly recommend that you do NOT watch NBA games. That is completely different and won't help you much. |
