Fouls weren't even.

Varsity Boys tonight
Fouls:
  • 1st half -> H6 V1
  • 4th Qtr -> H1 V5
2 point difference in 4th and as I'm administering a throw-in V Coach says [something like], "Mick, I need some help here. We're getting all the fouls."

"But Coach, you didn't say anything in the first half."

Coach says [smiling], "Well no. You guys were better in the first half."

V won.

:D :D :D

May I use this line I loved it?

illinoisbluezeb Tue Feb 06, 2007 11:44pm

Pressed sumbmit to soon.

Late in the 2nd qtr, after we have called another foul on her team.

Coach "The fouls are 12-3 this half, come on!!!"

Ref "I know coach, but don't holler at me tell your players." :rolleyes:

Oldie, but a goodie . . . "Coach, I don't count 'em, I just call 'em."

Tonight was one of those nights where the calling seemed crooked to me and I was one of the ones doing it. First half visitors committed the first 6 fouls and my partner called 5 of them. Second half in about a 2 or 3 minute stretch I called 5 in a row on home. "The refs are even cheating against each other!" (nobody actually said that) Fouls wound up pretty much even in both halves.

I had the semi finals of a middle school tournament last week and in the girls game the fouls were 13 on the home and 3 on the visitors in the first half and then 11 on he visitors and 2 on the home in the second half...the same thing happened in the boys game....I think that it is a fairly normal thing as coaches and players make adjustments at halftime. If a team had 13 fouls called on them in the first half then they probably wont play as aggressive in the second half while a team who only commits 3 fouls in the first half can afford to play a little more aggressive in the second half...It usually evens out!

Of course it evens out. Haven't you ever heard of MAKE UP CALLS??

But then again if it doesn't even out haven't you heard of BLATANT CHEATING??

Ignats75 Wed Feb 07, 2007 07:49am

I use the same one Big Dog uses. I don't like to hear anything along the lines of "tell you rplayers not to foul." Its a bit too inflamatory, smart-a$$y, and smacks of telling a coach how to coach....as much as I fantasize about that last one.:D "Come-on coach! Thats one of the worst substitution patterns I've ever seen! Go back to junior high!":D

One that can only be used with a coach whose team is leading:

"Coach, I could even out those fouls, but I would also have to even up that score." :D

Foul Count

I was in a game this past weekend that the coach was complaining about the foul count, but her team was pressing most of the game and committing the fouls. At the end of the game she told me the what the total count was and I said, Coach, your point is?:D

REFVA Wed Feb 07, 2007 09:05am

Coach: ref we are 8 to 2. Give me a call.

Me: I am giving you the calls. It's just not the call you want..

I actually had this happen to me this year - I called a travel on the V team in the first half. As I'm going past the V coach, he says, "Look, I don't disagree that was a travel, but you guys have called 7 travels on us and only 2 on them!" (Geez, now they're keeping track of travel calls?...) Well, along the lines of Nevada's response, I looked up and saw the fouls were H-4, V-0, and asked him if he wanted me to even up the foul count as well. He said, "No". Funny thing - I didn't hear a word from him the rest of the game about counts.

I had this last night. I called 5 or 6 fouls on the home team and none on the visitors and I started to feel like I was picking on them.

Mark Padgett Wed Feb 07, 2007 12:43pm

"Coach - I don't commit the fouls, I just point them out to the scorer when they happen."

GoodwillRef Wed Feb 07, 2007 12:54pm

I had a coach last year yell at me at the half because his team had 9 fouls and the other team only had 2. He had an 18 point lead. I told him I would even out the fouls and the score if he wanted me too...he took the lead and got whacked up by 25 points in the second half complaining about the fouls again.

Clueless!
