AAU can be fun; it's true, it's true

3rd quarter of my first of two 8th grade AAU games. A1 is shooting free throws, and B1 is standing behind the three point line. Just before A1 shoots, B1 yells "shot!" Shot goes in.

I walk over to B1 before the next shot and warn him pretty bluntly. "Do that again, and he gets another shot if he misses."

On the way back down the court, he runs near me and says, "There's no rule against it."

"Yes, there is. And if I were you I'd quit arguing me." End of conversation.

Snaq - I had a similar situation w/ MS Girls where a girl stood legally behind and to the side of the shooter, but just had to "cough" just as the shooter began her first of two shots. I politely told her if she has to cough to go all the way down to the other end of the court and not disconcert the shooter! Funny she didn't cough the rest of the game.....:)

Did you ever consider using The Old School Stare Of Immediate And Painful Death(tm) instead? I've heard that it's usage is almost de rigeur in AAU and rec league games instead of common sense.

I did try TOSSOIAPD(tm) in a game earlier this year, but all it did is elicit the expected Early Puberty Stare of Total Confusion (patent pending).

I hear that's similar to the Deer Caught In Headlights Look © 2007

It's a subset of the Deer Caught In Headlights Look © 2007. While adults are often caught with the Deer Caught In Headlights Look © 2007, the Early Puberty Stare of Total Confusion (patent pending) can only be achieved by boys from the ages of 12-15 and girls from the ages of 9-14. The biggest difference is that the word "whatever" can actually be seen in each of the eyeballs if you're close enough.
