This is probably going to have a bunch of you laughing, because I am new at this (only had by cert for about 6 months, and haven't done many games) - I had a situation where a 3 point shot was taken, and while it was in the air, another offensive player pushed a defender toward the basket (like diagonally from one corner of the 3 point lanes) probably 8 feet. The basket was good. What was the correct call for this, and does the basket count? What rule would cover this, if it is anything complicated? Please help! Thanks... I'll reserve my spur of the moment decision for a little later, when I have seen exactly what I should have done!

A shot in the air is only canceled by a player control foul (which could only be by the player that shot the ball), basket interference or goaltending. The ball is live until the shot is in the basket. So, this is a common foul. The basket counts since nothing has occur that negates it or makes the ball dead. The penalty for the foul is that B either gets the ball OOB nearest the spot of the foul, shoots 1+1, or shoots 2 depending on the foul count.

Camaron is right. It is a good basket and penalize the common foul.

Only six months? Sounds like the next three you will really get your experience. Enjoy the season.

I admire your candid honesty about learning the rules and nuances of the game. This will bode well in your ongoing improvement.

Have fun and "stay in the game." We were all a "greenie" at some time.

In this situation as well as others, remember to always penalize the fouls and judge the events/plays ast they occur.
Shot in the air. Foul by non-shooter does not make the ball dead, so basket is good. Call foul immediately if shot was no good. You don't want to wave off a put back.
Penalize the common foul on non-shooter.
