Funny as hell situation!!!

Funny situation tonight.

White team up by about 25, just under 2 minutes left in the game. Blue team commits a foul -- 4th foul of the half. Throw in is going to be right at the division line, in front of the table. I'm lead. After partner reports the foul, subs, or more like scrubs, enter the game for the team that is down by 25 -- blue team. It should be white making the throw in heading towards the end of the court where I'm set up as lead on the baseline and our other partner is set up as C on the far side. From where I was standing, I didn't notice that my partner gave the ball to blue for the throw in, and he threw it in to his teammate who went to the other end of the floor for an uncontested layup. At first, I just thought that blue had stolen the inbounds pass. My partner has a big old grin on his face.

With 25 seconds left, I find out the reason for the grin. Blue team calls a time out, and my partner who had administered the throw-in after the foul tells us about the following exchange that took place between him and the coach for blue. We'll call the coach Keith:

Partner (as he's walking to the table to report the foul): "Keith, you want to get those subs in for the last couple minutes?"

Keith: "Sure do Al, and I'd also like the ball back."

Partner: "No Problem." Turns to the table, "Blue, Two Zero, Push. Blue Ball."

He then administered the throw in giving blue the ball.

Through it all, white coach says absolutely NOTHING.

Had a good laugh at that one.

It's one thing to make a mistake, but it is quite another to purposely administer the game incorrectly. :(

While it certainly had no impact on the outcome of the game in your specific situation, it does call into question the integrity of the official and in my opinion damages The Game. For you to think his actions were funny is just plain sad. :(

I wouldn't want any official who would do something such as what you describe as a partner.

I guess this is a HTBT situation, because I don't see the humor. I personally wouldn't do what your partner did; but even if I would, it doesn't seem particularly funny to me.

I wish that I more humor when it comes to [any] games, but it just ain't in me.
Though I really do enjoy playing them all, I could not enjoy even a game of 52 pickup, if there were only 51 cards in the deck.

Junker Fri Jan 12, 2007 09:09am

Oh come on, relax! I think it's funny. I'd never do it, but it is funny!

Hartsy Fri Jan 12, 2007 09:29am

Uh, OK. You forgot to add the funny part.

bgtg19 Fri Jan 12, 2007 10:30am

I think every one is missing the sarcasm in the original post. W&S indicated that it was "funny as hell." Hell, we all know or presume, is not very funny. Therefore, I believe W&S was offering his own condemnation (condamnation?) of his partner's actions. :)

Ref Daddy Fri Jan 12, 2007 10:41am

Intersting story. Honestly I did not laugh when reading it.

What impact did this have on the "blue" coach with a new & different crew officiating later in the season in a tight game - and needs to make a judgement call?

Onward!

Everyone please lighten up a bit. This is just a game. Let's have some fun out there.

And what did this little "joke" do to the credibility of that official with the coach of the other team...even though he didn't say anything at the time, I guarantee you that he will remember it and it will come back to bite the official in the azz at some future point...there are lots of ways to have fun and enjoy what we do without pulling something like this. As others have said, I just don't see the humor.

Ya know I've wondered that myself.

Mods, can we get an answer to this question please?

mick Fri Jan 12, 2007 02:17pm

No extra credit for effort, eh?

Hardly seems fair...maybe should be - 1/2 or something.

Nope, it's just not set up that way. Had you not had some posts deleted, you would have been around 9,347.
