Agreed. I personally don't find it hard to determine quickly if the player is in th act of shooting.

Is the ball above their waist?
Is the ball raising and/or heading towards the basket?
Is the players body facing or heading to the basket or extending upwards?

Tis a judgement call.

I sincerely fail to see where any of these parameters are useful in determining continuous motion. The rules book gives you plenty of guidance in making this call. Please let us know whence these nuggets of wisdom are derived???

Just hold your whistle and it's not an issue. http://www.runemasterstudios.com/gra...es/naughty.gif

And you gave the coach's opinion an ounce of merit? Trust yourself.

Think about what the rules say...

normal throwing movement, customary arm movement, being able to take a step....

They guy was drivining in on the layup and taken a step... what is he going to do?

He has three options at this point,
1) shoot it
2) pass it
3) travel

He did not travel and he did not pass it....

High school officials call way too many of these as non shooting (IMHO)

Calling this a non-shooting foul rewards the defense for sloppy play. Hold the whistle for a second.

A second? Shoot. Sometimes I don't blow the whistle until the fourth beer at the pub after the game!

The beer helps wash down the whistle that you swallowed during the game?

I don't know. Maybe. Come Saturday morning, it's all a blur and a headache!:p
