Threads being closed...

Ok, we've now had 2 or 3 threads closed because of posts by Old School and the responses they evoke.

A new strategy is needed. I know some feel compelled to answer Old School as a way to steer the uninitiated away from some of his more outrageous advice and theories.

I think this needs to be done by addressing only the basketball portions of his posts without making any personal comments towards the ancient scholastic one. He obviously is only here to pull peoples strings and unfortunately he has been successful a time or two.

I know he does this intentionally b/c every once-in-a-while he slips up and says something that makes sense, but it's usually hidden somewhere in the middle of a bunch of rambling rabble-rousing. I still believe he is the alter-ego of one of our more bored forums regulars. He's getting a big laugh at a lot of folk's expense.

*special note: Feel free to replace all masculine pronouns with feminine pronouns. :)

I have searched for this irritant you speak of, this Old School. I searched every thread on the first two pages of the board. I could not find him. I finally located him, on my block list. It's nice to know that all is right in my world. ;)

I don't think so, BadNewsRef.

Sorry - can't ignore his offensive remarks. Maybe if we respond to them in a manner that says we won't tolerate his crap, he'll eventually go away. I believe in confrontation when facing someone who is totally offensive and insulting.

As easy as it may be to fall into direct confrontation with such a person, they feed on that kind of confrontation and sit back and laugh at the results. Notice nobody ever gets too far under OS's skin. I know how it works--I have experience being offensive and insulting. It's all about getting the reaction.

My first question is why would anyone let someone get under their skin that you do not know and will never meet?

I also do not believe in blocking someone on a forum like this. There are general comments you can make in response to someone that is clearly saying something that is not right. Sometimes certain comments need to be challenged even if you like or do not like the person. Someone is going to read something and take that as some kind of law and they need to know there is an opposing view. You do not have to get personal to simply disagree. Disagreement is often a good thing if you want to sort out what is the right or wrong thing to do.

Peace

I think we've found Old School. He's wear a red sweater vest and he goes for it on 4th and 1 at his own 29 yd line in the 2nd quarter of the National Championship game.

I don't think that deleting his account will work. He will just keep creating new accounts under different names. I think that no matter how hard it is, we should just ignore him. He is just looking for attention. If we refrain from arguing with him, he will move on.

I know that most of you are concerned that new officials will follow his advice, thinking that he is an actual official and that he knows what he is talking about. I suggest that we just briefly correct his false statements without making personal comments toward him. We shouldn't try to argue with him any further after this. This way, we make sure that new officials know that his comments are wrong, yet we give him as little attention as possible.

Not if you ban all IP addresses that he's posted from.
