Backcourt or not?

This happened to me in a varsity game last week. Not sure I made the right call.
Player A-1 has the ball in her frontcourt and attempts to make a high pass over a pressing B-1. The ball comes down and hits the division line on one bounce. Player A-2, still in her frontcourt, secures the ball before it hits the floor. I called it a backcourt violation and no one argued the call. Is this correct??

As team A was the last to touch the ball in the front court and the first to touch after the ball hit the line (line being in the back court) it would be a back court violation. You nailed it.

It wouldn't matter whether the ball hit the floor in the FC after it hit the division line. It would still be a violation.

Is this because once the ball touches the line it has BC status and no matter what A does it will be a BC violation?

Yes.

4 criteria:

1) Team Control
2) Ball in Front Court (note that PC in the FC is NOT required)
3) A last to touch before ball goes to BC (note that A need not touch the ball in the FC)
4) A first to touch after ball goes to BC (note that A need not touch the ball in the BC)

"Exceptions" for throw-in, jump ball, defense

Wasn't there a quiz with these types of questions for backcourt situations? I don't think I saw it get posted recently.

Yes, there was, Scrapy. To know that, you must have been lurking here for a while before you started posting. BktBallRef usually posts it.

You'll be delighted to know that we have an annual baseball thread here also. With you here, and whatsisname gone, it should now be all Yankees/all the time.

Not if I can help it.

There really are fans of other teams here besides you four Yankee fans (you, JR, Dan_ref, and Old School).

Old School very obviously is a Cubbies fan. That's very apparent from his posts.

But, you can call Scrapy, myself and Dan_ref the Three Musketeers of Yankeedom though. Azzhos, Porthole and Hairlessness, that's us!

I don't know how I got scraped into that group. I'm a Rangers fan. Now that we have a new manager (Ron Washington was very highly thought of with the A's), we're going all the way this season. Leave me out of that Yankees stuff.

Well... I am a Yankee fan. Spent the 1st Twenty-four years of my life in the Albany, NY area. I root for both the Yankees and Cardinals. And if they play each other, then I root for the Yankees. So Yankee fans unite!
