Intentional foul rule #

Actually the penalty for it?

Was at a game friday night, lead calls foul on B1 on a fast break layup from a steal by A1, C official comes from about mid court arms flying and calls an intentional, he was no where near the play and the lead had it taken care of. IMO i thought it was terrible call. Well the basket went on the layup. They get together and talk about what they go. They go with the call of the intentional, but they only give the kid ONE FREE THROW and the ball out of bounds!
The team loses by one, it was some of my buddies, so after the game i went in and i ask them after the game if they felt bad about not giving the proper number of shots on the intentional. I told them that 1 free throw may of forced overtime. The argument started! Could someone please post the rule for the intentional foul, so i can get a cold drink after work today. Don't have my books with me, and it just says in under penalties in the on line version, thanks in advance!

If the basket counted he should have shot 2 free throws and the ball nearest the spot of foul.

Penalties (Rule 10 Summary)
4. Two free throws if intentional or flagrant, plus ball for throw-in.

SITUATION: B1 is charged with an intentional foul on A1 who is in the act of shooting: (a) a successful two-point or three-point try; (b) an unsuccessful two-point try; or (c) an unsuccessful three-point try.
RULING: In (a) and (b), A1 is awarded two free throws. In (c), A1 is awarded three free throws. In all situations following the free throws, Team A is awarded a throw-in at the out-ofbounds spot nearest the foul.

Same, even if the basket didn't go. Regardless of whether the basket goes, the penalty is always 2 free throws and the ball.

Unless it's on an unsuccessful 3-point attempt.
