Correctable Error

Working 2 man . I'm Trail. Girls Gone Mad JV game. I have a foul. I report the foul. Before leaving the reporting area I look up and see the foul count change from 5 to 6. I rotate to the endline and partner gives ball to the offense for a throw-in. Tweet. We have a spot violation.

Horn starts going off. They were wrong on foul count. "Shouda been 1 and 1. "

So this is what I came up........I just had them line up and shoot the free throws and let play go from there.

But I get home and I'm reviewing 2-10 . I am now thinking I should have shot the free throws , lanes cleared, but gone back to the POI which was the spot violation.

What say you ?

If you gave the ball to the inbounder but possession never changed (either they never passed inbounds or the pass was caught by a teammate of the thrower), line 'em up and shoot.
If the ball was inbounded and possession subsequently changed (steal, made basket, offensive violation, etc.), then you shoot with the lane clear and give the ball to whomever had it at the time you noticed the error.
Note the time limitation on when you can correct this if you did indeed have the ball inbounded.

(edited to remove evidence that I didn't read the OP carefully enough)

Not correct. Should have have shot with the lane cleared and give the ball OOB as after the violation.

"Possession" changed the moment the throwin team violated. The defending team in that case had earned possession by forcing the team to violate (or the thrown team forfeited possession by violating).

what would this be in FIBA?
My guess is shots with players in the lane but I'm not sure...

That is correct. Team B is now entitled to a throw-in. Therefore, there has been a change in team possession since the error was made.

continuing the SITCH

So lets say there was not a spot violation and no change of possession, just a throw-in then the horn sounds. I would then line'em up, shoot the throws and let play continue from there ????

Apparently I didn't remove all the evidence I didn't read the OP carefully enough. I was thinking spot throwin, as in after a foul, and didn't catch the violation. Since I had a small school girls JV game yesterday that went into double overtime, I'll consider my punishment served.

What Camron Rust said.

Yep, clear the lane to shoot the shots. After the shots, give the ball back to B due to the throwin violation on A.

Nev is correct. We had a thread about this within the past year. I tried searching for it, but I could not find it.

Thanks for clearing that up!
