Funny Situation
A friend of mine called me last night to fill me in on a junior high game he was working. The official is a varsity official but since we are few in numbers was filling in at the lower level.
A player from each team were going after the ball, there was some contact, not sure if a jump ball or a foul was called. My friend was going to get the ball to put it back into play and the one kid was yelling at the other kid. This is my ball, don't you touch me ect. The ref (my friend) tells the kid to settle down and that he can't get into the other kids face like that (trying to prevent a T) The kid then yells at the official and says I can say whatever I want, I have freedom of speech! The official then says I have freedom of the whistle and T'd the kid up. Thought you would all enjoy that one. HAve a good one! PIAA REF |
Kids say the darnest things!

Amendment 28 - Freedom of the Whistle. Has a nice ring to it. We just have to keep the coaches' lobby from campaigning against it. |

Padgett - was Dave reffing out in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania???
I was reffing an intramural soccer game once where one bench was chanting something along the lines of 'kill the other team.' I told the players to knock it off and one girl replied that she had freedom of speech. I said that it didn't really apply to a soccer game and that if they continued, they'd earn yellow cards. One girl responded that her daddy was a lawyer and that he'd sue me. Funny - I never did get served with that case. |
I vote YES!

It is an inalienable referee right. No amendment needed ;)
