last second shot and foul...

I had this last night at the end of the 3rd quarter in a boys varsity contest. I am at C, I have the clock on the final shot, it is a try for 3, player gets fouled, horn, and bucket goes in. Now my question is I signaled the proper three pt try, then with the same hand I have a fist for the foul and then I drop my hand to indicate that it is an and 1 and it counts. I got to thinking as we went to the line to shoot the free thrower, was that the proper way to indicate that sequence and not use the successful three pt mechanic. thoughts....

I had that last week. I'm not sure I did it right, but my mechanic went in this order:
  1. Right Hand in Air to Indicate Three Point Shot
  2. Whistle to indicate foul changing three fingers to fist (kind of a half punch to indicate the change)
  3. Chop to indicate basket is good
  4. Both hands in the air to indicate three point basket

At the Table I started by chopping basket is good followed by both hands in the air for three.

I use mechanic 15 (attempt), then I'd use mechanic 4 (or 5). After the try was successful, I would use mechanic 15 (successful). At the table I would slam it home using mechanic 13 and the latter part of 15.

Um, anyway, this has always confused the heck out of me at the spot. I swear sometimes I must end up looking like the traffic cop at a busy, 5-way intersection. But I've gotten better at it, because it seems like I've seen more of these fouls recently and have had a chance to put it to practice. It's usually:
Signal 3-point attempt.
Change to fist in the air for foul.
Count basket.
Signal made 3-point basket.
Signal type of foul. (Bird dog if necessary.)
Go to table.
Rinse, and repeat.
Er, I mean, count basket, signal made 3-pointer, color, number, foul, 1 shot.

Standing in front of a mirror and doing it a few times helps with the sequence.
