FIBA brawl
Saw on the AOL headline page that there was a brawl in Serbia. My firewall won't let me view it. Can any of you FIBA guys shed some light on the situation?

the gist of the story is red star was playing some greek team. Fans of another local serbian rival team showed up to support the greeks. Rumble ensues. It says there were several hundred involved, but the craziest thing was that some of them were throwing flares!? |
I saw this on last night's news - this was a brawl between fans before a game even started. There was even a lit flare being thrown at people before police in riot gear showed up.
Kind of makes the "Aw, you're blind, ref!" comments seem so much more mundane. |

Many European clubs have those "organized supporters", which are actually supported by the clubs themselves, in order to get the "atmosphere of the game". Often they are plain hooligans; put in the traditional rivalry among different nations or even among different towns in the same nation and you get this. It is more frequent in soccer games, though. |
I like how the fans are all dressed in black with white helmets - I think the shield and clubs were a little heavy on the accessories side but to each his own. :)
Remind me to renew my FIBA Paperwork next week  |
For those of you who want to see more: Search youtube.com for "paok zvezda", since one team involved was Paok Saloniki of Greece and the other Red Star Belgrade (zvezda = star) ...
