Gray's
Anybody wearing Gray's this year??? Heard they were NOT appovered:
|
Im guessing this has come up before?
|
Your question is too general. Wearing the gray for what?

Basketball officials

Level? Rules set? State?

Sure, I wear gray (grey) undies, but they used to be white!
|
Any level, heard Fideration rules won't allow it, and any State

With your name I would have thought you were a nothing at all type of guy.
If he was talking about the Gray Ref shirt, in PA they are not permitted. However I wear them on the small college circuit. |
First of all the National Federation does not "approve" them but that does not prevent any state from setting standards for what their officials wear. The only place that has signed off on the grey shirts (if that is what you are talking about) is the JUCO level. Even at the JUCO level it would depend on the conference until post season play.
Does that answer your (very vague) question? Peace |
Yes sir thanks,

Around here they do not want to see them on a HS floor. We do wear them in some college leagues however. Personally, I don't like them, but I do like the games I get to work when I wear them. :D
|
In Montana most are using them this year, its up to the crew. Next year they are mandatory and we did start using them last year in games.

Arizona was wearing a shiny grey/silver many years ago and I'm not sure if they still do. IAABO board 134 in Maryland has been wearing gray shirts for high school games for about 3+ seasons now. Maryland JUCO has been wearing gray for at least 3 years.
Why don't we have stickies with a FAQ thread so this can be handled in one place? |
Where is Mr Annoying Grammar Guy? Aside from that, NH wears 'em. Maine wears 'em. We wear 'em here in VT as an alternate.
|
I still like the stripes. Zebras are striped. Jack a**ses are gray. I choose to think of myself as a zebra, but my wife and son may tell you a different story.:D

Been wearing them in central Florida for two seasons with state blessing. I don't like them...we look different than other associations, but it's not in my primary so I'll swallow my opinion.

In Minnesota
I sent an e-mail to the Associate Director of the MSHSL regarding the approval of grey shirts. Here is his response.....
"Hi Tom -- The grey shirts have not been recognized or approved by the National Federation. Minnesota also has not made this change. Our philosophy on this one has to be a wait and see. We don't want to go that way too soon and then find out that other states and other levels will stay with the Black and White stripes. Personally I am not against it, but for some reason this has not been approve for use at the college level, or in very many states." That's the way it is....in Minnesota |
Striped shirts were originally picked as the standard for officials for a very particular reason. It's hard to confuse stripes with the color of the players' shirts out on the court.. Wearing grey simply negates that reasoning imo.
I'm not really a traditionalist....just saying. |

Yea, verily, you truly are wise beyond your years. I would expect no less from a Yankees fan of your stature though. I shoulda clarified that. I always bought equipment from a supplier way back when I was a member. They supplied or put the patches on themselves. IAABO just determined the main and trim colors, and style, of the the shirt. I still have 2 old, different colored/styles of patched IAABO warm-up jackets somewhere too. The oldest one has to be at least 40 years old. Probably still fits though.:) |
MN differences from Fed

Yes, we have 18 min halves, we also have the use of TV monitors in specific situations at State tournament semi & final games. Despite our non-Fed changes in these areas we have not gone to grey. |
