Snow cancellations

:(

Here in Western Washington, we rarely have any snow issues. However, a surprise snowstorm has paralyzed us. My original schedule was a boys game tonight, a girls game tomorrow and then a boys game Thursday. Tonight's and tomorrow's games are already cancelled. Freezing temps forecast through Thursday and the roads are a mess so Thursday's is in doubt too. What a start to the season.

The good news is that my 4-year old boy thinks he's died and gone to heaven because dad can't get to work and we have a great sledding hill beside the house.

What happened to global warming??!

Same boat as you, my girls game was cancelled last night and my boys games for today were called :(

BTW, what association are you working for?

Texas Aggie Tue Nov 28, 2006 09:06pm

Weather is supposed to turn nasty down here late tomorrow night and into Thursday. No cancellations yet, but last year when we iced over (barely) games were canceled fast. Since Thursday includes tournaments, if it is iced over, some districts will cancel and others won't.

People make fun of Texans because we can't drive on ice and school districts close down if somebody's brother in law even hears of freezing precips. I don't have a problem with that. Our roads aren't built for the ice, we don't have salt trucks, nobody can drive well on that stuff, and we don't need to be running kids in buses on it. The school districts have a couple of snow days built in for that purpose, so close down at will. We can make up the games if need be.

Portland, Oregon -- Yea, we had a few flaky flakes this am, enough to get up and watch TV to see if there would be sdchool today or not. It was all gone by 11 am. We'll see what Wed evening brings.

jeffpea Wed Nov 29, 2006 12:44am

someone ask about "global warming"? it's here in chicago - the temp. has not gotten below 50 degrees at any point in the last 60 hours. of course we're supposed to get a fair amount of snow overnight Thursday into Friday....

as we say in chicago: "if you don't like the weather, wait a minute - it WILL change"....

Yeah, I saw you guys got hammered. My daughter is at PLU and a bunch of their classes were cancelled today.

As Juulie said, we've beem lucky in Portland so far.....it's cold, but little accumulation on the valley floor. Tomorrow should be OK, but Thursday could be a little dicey as they're forecasting the possibility of freezing rain.

You NorthWest guys/gals are having it rough right now. Returned just last night from a week in Tumwater holding my 7-week old grandson for the first time!!! He's a real cutie -- takes after his grandpa.:) Rained 4 days and snowed 3 days. Left Tumwater at 3:30 am for 7:50 am flight to VA, and got to the gate 5 minutes before they closed the door. I-5 was riduculous just south of Sea-Tac. I know you guys don't use salt for envioronmental reasons, but it was surprising to not see sand or some sort of thing on the interstate.

I heard on the radio on the way to Sea-Tac about all of the school closings, and I mentioned to my wife that a lot of sports would have to be rescheduled.

We are experiencing Spring like weather this week. It's suppose to change to cold, cold stuff next week though.

Next week my a$$! Try tomorrow night - there's a chance of 2 - 5". Depending on where the snow hits, there might be chance for some Fri. closings.

But I'm enjoying the current weather while it lasts. Then I'll finally get to put away my Hawaiian shirts 'till next spring.

Maybe I should update my weather ticker...that might help! Holy smokes, you're right..... 2 - 5" tomorrow night. Everyone let's sing:
... the weather outside is frightful
But the fire is so delightful
And since we’ve no place to go Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow ;)

tjones1 and M&MGuy:

I am across the river to you guys (Lincoln County MO) and the way people are acting around here the sky is about to fall. Great time to invest in Prairie Farms and Wonder Bread stock.

Over here the front is supposed to move in through the night tonight and through the day tomorrow. noaa.gov says 1 to 3, the maintenance guy says a foot. ;) (In fairness I do think its supposed to be heavier down south around I-44). So we'll see.

I guess tomorrow is a good day to have a off day.

I rode my bicycle home from work this morning. Cold enough my camelbak started to freeze. Since I had forgotten my ipod, and had to entertain myself with my own thoughts, I kept on singing this to myself all the way home. :D

Well eyezen, we are starting to get the tip of the nasty stuff. Not looking good, I'm scheduled to work a regional championship tomorrow evening. But more important I get to meet up with my brother afterwards. I won't be a happy camper if my plans get altered. However, I guess there's not too much I can do about it.

Very nice. I have forgotten my MP3 the past two days. Not very good, cause then I can't listen to BOB&TOM...and that is depressing! :D

nwiboi2005 Wed Nov 29, 2006 04:01pm

I was just up in Valpo on Wednesday and Thursday. It was a wonderful day on Turkey Day up there!!

TJ1,
Don't think you're going to be a happy camper. We're getting poured on with rain raight now and are looking at a lot more than 2"-5" of snow and they're saying 1/4" of ice under it. (Man, I already miss Southern Illinois winters.) BTW how long has you're brother been back? Is he doing any games anymore? RR

He has been back since June. Yes, he is starting to pick games up again this year. Luckly, he was able to keep his status and go inactive while he was over there. Doing that, he only had to complete Part I and (obviously) didn't have to attend the Rules Meeting.

I've given him a few of mine to get back into the mix.

tjones1 Thu Nov 30, 2006 01:03pm

Knock on wood...

So far so good here, it's raining a little bit here, however things are looking good. There have been a few games to the West of me that have started shutting things down. Time will tell...

Well, I just got my first one cancelled a few minutes ago. The visiting team decided to call it quits already, so I won't be able to work one of my closest games of the season...sigh...

That's usually how it works! I'm scheduled to go to Effingham tonight. And Ohhhhh boy... I just dialed in weather.com and took a look at the radar. It shows the Rain/Freezing rain is suppose to start right about the time I am planning to take off. So with that....what's the IESA's policy on post-season games called due to weather and the officials? I know the IHSA has revised their policy latetly. I would assume they did the samething...

M&M, it hit here today and I'm sure by now it's hit you guys over there. Luckily, I'm scheduled off tonight so no biggie for me. Tomorrow (Friday) is supposed to be worse than today......arrrggggg!
