Great Alaska Shootout (jump ball)
Loyola Marymount and Pacific last night; pretty good game, double overtime.
To start the first overtime, the jump ball was tapped and the ball was tied up before either team could get control. I wondered if the two players who tied up the ball would take the next jump, they did not. The two original jumpers jumped it up again. My partner and I made this error about five years ago. It has stayed with me ever since. |
The two players who tied it up should have done the re-jump. NCAA AR 132, page 124.
It happens so rarely that it's really not a surprise to forget the rule. |
Federation rules agree with this...

I kicked this in an AAU game this fall. We went back to the original jumpers; all the time I'm thinking, "I think the two who tied it up are supposed to jump. Crap, I don't remember who they are." Lesson learned, I can tell you that.

I was at the game and was wondering the same thing. I guess we all have vapor locks at some time or another.
