5 sec call

Need some rules clarifaction please.

Our girls team (very small school) only has 6 players, but they are all excellent and will likely run away with our zone.

To save his girls the coach is planning to run a 5 wide play a few times a half. Almost all teams play 2-1-2 zone here. So he plans to spread his girls out 5 wide outside the 3 pt line and have them pass the ball around.

If they come out to challenge m2m, they will get killed, so I expect the other team will sit in the zone and wait.

Question: how will the 5 sec call effect this?

Unchallenged, how long can they hold/dribble the ball. Do they have to be inside the hash marks just past mid-court?

Help please.

In Federation rules, the closely guarded rule needs to have a defender within 6 feet. If B is playing a zone and under the 3-point line, Team A players can be at leat 6 feet outside the 3-point line, pass the ball around, and not have to worry about any closely guarded violations.

IOW, unchallenged, they can hold the ball until the buzzer goes to end the period.

I have no idea. You will have to see when your opponent plays you. :D

If the defender is within 6 feet, you can hold the ball for 4 seconds, dribble for 4 seconds and hold the ball again for 4 seconds.

The hash marks have nothing to do with this. All that is required is the ball handler be in the front court.

Peace

The defender needs to be in legal guarding position within six feet for the 5-second closely guarded count to start.

They can hold the ball anywhere in the front court forever now if you don't send a defender out to within 6 feet of the player with the ball. Forget about the hashmarks. They're meaningless now when it comes to the closely-guarded rule.

the five second closely garded rule in High school requires the defender to establish and maintain a posistion within six feet of the offensive player.

NCAA Men or NCAA Women?

Since it's girls, I'll assume the latter. Closely guarded only while holding (not dribbling) the ball within 3 feet (not 6 feet).

But, since it's NCAA rules, they will only be able to hold the ball for 30-seconds (shot clock)
